Cleaning your Grow Room and equipment

Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Sanitizing and more

  1. Cleaning – removes dirt and debris from surface; some bacteria

    1. mop and rag, some soap; clean the big stuff off. Removes bulk of baddies.

  2. Sanitizing – removes most bacteria from the surfaces.

    1. star san, oxi clean, iodine (bleach requires a 20min soak)

  3. Disinfecting – kills bad bacteria and viruses almost completely

    1. targeted and expensive; typically a bit more dangerous, fungicides, algaecides, chloride dioxide and other fun stuff.

  4. Sterilizing – the nuke - kills everything (extreme)

    1. steam at 132 for at least 4 mins (think baby bottles or canning)

    2. lots of other expensive solutions

Cleaning

Lestoil and Vinegar, plenty of other good solutions. Pick what works.

Sanitizing

star san, oxiclean and iodphor (iodine) are all great options. Always pay attention to contact time required and if a rinse is needed.

Bleach solution requires a 10-20min soak to sanitize and is often miss used.

Sterilizing

Bring out the steam. A good steam mop/spray will get you 90% there; great for partial sterilizing the grow room and walls. Holding for 4mins at 132 is harder to do for larger items; but you can still use a canning jar set to do smaller on stove top.
